The Nashville Story Behind Jayne Denham's "Gotta Believe It"

Country rock artist Jayne Denham has released her new single "Gotta Believe It," an anthem of hope and resilience written by Nashville songwriters Buck Johnson, James Dean Hicks and Charlie Midnight, and produced by Marti Frederiksen (Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Carrie Underwood).

The seven-time Australian Golden Guitar nominee says the song found her almost by accident, in the middle of a Nashville writing session where she was describing the exact thing she was about to be handed.

The Story Behind the Song

Denham was in Nashville with her manager, discussing her vision for her next album, when the idea for "Gotta Believe It" essentially walked into the room.

"I wanted to tell the story of growing up singing in church, blending my country rock party vibe with an authentic gospel theme," Denham said. "I also wanted a song or two that offered real hope. It wouldn't be a Christian album, but it was important to have songs that inspired positivity in today's world."

That same day, the pair met with singer-songwriter Buck Johnson. Without any knowledge of the conversation that had just taken place, Johnson played a demo of "Gotta Believe It."

"His vocal on the demo was incredible; it was huge," Denham said.

"When the chorus hit, the music and lyrics really hit me. This was exactly what I had been saying I wanted for my album." - Jayne Denham

Denham says the moment confirmed the song was meant for her before a word of explanation was needed.

"Buck had no idea what we had just been discussing, which made the moment even more powerful. We all knew right then that this song was meant for me."

"Gotta Believe It" is produced by Marti Frederiksen, the Nashville hitmaker behind some of the biggest rock records of the last three decades, including Aerosmith's "Jaded," Def Leppard's "X", and Mötley Crüe's "Saints of Los Angeles." Frederiksen's production has also shaped hits for Carrie Underwood and Faith Hill.

The track is the latest chapter in an ongoing creative partnership between Denham and Frederiksen, and continues the country rock sound the pair have built across Denham's recent single releases.

A Message of Hope

Denham says the song's message is simple, and one she hopes reaches anyone doing it tough.

"I hope 'Gotta Believe It' encourages anyone facing tough times to keep believing, because better days are ahead," Denham said. "I'm so grateful to Buck Johnson, James Dean Hicks and Charlie Midnight for the opportunity to record this incredible song."

The single is taken from Denham's forthcoming seventh studio album, due for release in early 2027.
