Jayne Denham Bares Her Soul On Upcoming 2027 Album

Female truckies, hillbillies and moonshiners. For six albums, those are the characters Jayne Denham has written about, figures drawn from country folklore and her wild imagination.

Her seventh album is different.

In a remarkable new interview with Kara White at scenestr, Jayne opens up about the one story she never thought to tell. Her own.

"Nothing's ever been my story," she confesses. "There's hardly anything across my whole career, and this is my seventh album, because it's just not the way I write. I love to write about girls who drive trucks."

The piece traces the full arc, from singing in a Blue Mountains church at five, to performing at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in front of 10,000 people as a teenager, to touring the USA, Europe, Guam and Saipan in stadiums with Youth Alive by the time she was 23.

It was two musical worlds colliding that shaped who she became. Her father's country records on one side. On the other, Chrissy Amphlett's vocal punch in the Divinyls, Cold Chisel's blues-infused rock guitar, Suze DeMarchi fronting Baby Animals, and above all, Ann Wilson of Heart.

"Ann Wilson from Heart is my favourite singer of all time. I used to just drive the neighbours completely mental because I would just sing the band's music day in, day out."

Then there is Marti Frederiksen, whose credits span Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Carrie Underwood and Faith Hill, who came in to record one song and kept going until they had made an album together. In Marti's own words, an album that "makes complete sense on a massive stage."

Her most personal album yet is due in January 2027.
