For Australian country rock powerhouse Jayne Denham, pushing creative boundaries has always been part of the journey and her brand-new music video for "Hillbilly Halo" takes that vision to an entirely new level.
Twelve months ago, Denham called longtime friend and director Phil Taylor with one goal in mind: to create something Australian country music audiences had never seen before.
"No one would remember this, but Phil and I were the first in Australian Country Music to use a drone for my song 'Grew Up Round Trucks.' So, I wanted to do something fresh and new again, something next level and completely out of the box." - Jayne Denham
The Innovation: Immersive 3D Virtual Production
After months of research and experimentation, Taylor discovered an innovative production technique that combines green-screen filming with powerful 3D graphics software. The result is a visually striking and immersive approach rarely seen within the Australian music landscape.
Each band member was filmed individually against a green screen before being painstakingly composited by hand into an entirely virtual 3D world. The production employed Blender, a sophisticated 3D graphics software capable of building cinematic, photo-realistic virtual environments.
The final production consisted of approximately 6,000 frames, each taking an average of 45 seconds to render, totalling nearly three full days of rendering time.
"We're both incredibly proud of what we've achieved. I hope people love and appreciate the countless hours of work that went into creating something truly special and unique for Australian country music and for audiences around the world." - Jayne Denham
While not officially verified, Denham and Taylor believe this production may be among the first Australian country music videos to be created on this scale using immersive 3D virtual production technology.
"Hillbilly Halo" is available on all streaming services from Friday, 1st May.
ABOUT THE SONG
"Hillbilly Halo" is the first single from Denham's upcoming album, produced and co-written with Nashville's Marti Frederiksen, whose credits include Aerosmith's Jaded, Def Leppard's X, and Mötley Crüe's Saints of Los Angeles.
Co-written with Australian Nashville-based songwriter Kylie Sackley, the track delivers the full-band, arena-scale production DNA of classic rock applied to country roots. It's a country-rock party song about the good girl who loves to bend the rules just enough, built around major chords that give the chorus its lift.
The upcoming album represents a creative leap for an artist who has delivered two ARIA #1 country albums and built a dedicated following across Australia, the US, Germany, and Northern Europe.
